Keep or Change Your Insurance Plan

By Beth Boone

It’s that time of year. Open Enrollment is here.

It’s time to consider your options and choose a 2024 health insurance plan for your family. Here are some things to do if you are enrolling in the Health Insurance Marketplace for the first time:

Fill out an application, compare plans, and enroll in health coverage for 2024.

  • Enroll by December 15th for coverage that starts January 1st.
  • Enroll by January 15th for coverage that starts February 1st.

If you need help, talk to a licensed Health Insurance Agent. It’s a free service.

Automatic Re-enrollment Keeps You Covered

If you have Marketplace coverage, you will automatically be enrolled in a plan for next year, so you avoid a gap in coverage. But, to make sure you get the savings you qualify for and have a plan that works for you, act by December 15 so coverage starts January 1:

Update, Compare Plans & Enroll

  • Update your application with your expected income and household information for plan year 2024.
  • Compare the plan you're matched with for auto-enrollment with other plans available to you.
  • Pick the plan that best meets your needs and enroll in it – you can choose to enroll in the one you're matched with or any plan available to you.
  • Ask a licensed agent to help you choose the plan that fits your family best.

Open Enrollment ends on January 15. This is the last day to enroll in or change health plans for 2024. After this date, you can enroll in or change plans only if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
